You all may remember that I mentioned a little while back that I was intending to go to Morocco this October! Well, I'm having second thoughts about doing that - despite pretty much having everything planned and booked, and really really wanting to go. But let me tell you why, and hopefully you'll be able to let me know if you think I'm being silly or not at the end of it.
At the end of October my dearest friend, Mr.G, who I've known for years is going to Australia on a two-year Visa to work for some mining corporation. (I know not the details.)
How rubbish is that?!
Everyone is abandoning me for warmer weather. *insert forever alone meme here*
So, I was thinking - how about I go out and join them? I'm going to get a RTW ticket, and here's my planned travel itinerary.
- Fly into Cambodia. Volunteer programme with Original Volunteers.
- Fly out to Perth, Australia. Visit Mr.G. Drink wine and laugh lots.
- Fly out to Christchurch, New Zealand. Take in the sights, drink coffee. Love life.
- Fly back to Sydney, Australia. Behold the glorious Opera House. Search for 42 Wallaby Way.
- Fly to Bangkok, Thailand. Travel down south to visit Mr.R. Live like a backpacker.
Okay, it's a bit repetitive, But it means I get to visit everywhere I want to, in the cheapest way possible. I basically found an amazing flight deal, and it would be insanity to turn it down. That doesn't mean it's not going to be a pretty expensive trip.
I'm pretty devastated at the prospect of having to delay a trip that I was so set to go on. After putting it off for so long, because tbh I was just afraid to do it, and now coming so close to going - I want to be illogical and go anyway, despite the expense.
So, question is. To satisfy my burning wanderlust, shall I go to Morocco anyway, or stay and put the money towards the big trip?

ooh, that is difficult! You have your life ahead of you to plan both trips, do the one that feels most important now. Just because you've been putting off Morocco for a while, doesn't mean you'll put it off forever - if you really want to go and have the means to do so eventually, maybe you an afford to put it off a little longer. Alternatively, can you bear to wait longer to visit your friends?
ReplyDeletePersonally (with no intention of swaying!) I'd get the trip to see your friends done first as I gather from your post that this will be the more expensive trip? And good flight deals don't last forever!
ps. I am very jealous you can afford to even have these decisions!
DeleteI think you're right. I think I should probably do the big trip first!
DeleteAs for the money, I can assure you I'm going to be saving every last penny for the next eight months! I'm actually really scared that I wont manage it. :(
Best of luck! I'm sure you will...just try and avoid the shops as much as possible ;) I'm trying to cut back on spending to get a new flat so I feel your pain!
DeleteSUCH a hard decision! If it was me I'd probably go for the big trip - you can't guarantee that you'll ever have the time or the places to crash around the world in the future. Is there anyway you can work Morocco into the big trip?
ReplyDeleteI might be able to! Good idea!
DeleteI'll totally ask if it can be worked into my flight.
If not I'll just have to do it next Autumn sometime after I get back. :)
Just wanted to say really enjoying your blog :) x
ReplyDeleteOoh I'm so jealous of this! Go for the one you'd be gutted about if you chose the other. If that makes sense! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm from Perth!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI knooow. :D
DeleteI'll have to come visit you, p'haps?
